Answers to question # 7 and #8
Mar 20 2008, 11:54 PM EDT The basic characteristics of Castiglione's courtier is to be loyal to whomsoever he serves, be bold and strong, speak, write well, and have knowledge of Latin and Greek. Also, know the arts and music. The basic characteristics of a Court Lady would be have good sense, manners, knowledge of music and art, letters, and be cautious of how she speaks to men. Castiglione's view of the well rounded person compared to mine would be somewhat different, but do to the time period now days people would not be as cultured in Latin and Greek or well learned in etiquette. I do not think Castiglione overlooked any qualities. The qualities that he cite that would not be important today would be the warrior skills of the medieval times and the qualities of grace and refinement. Do you find this valuable? |
